True Photography? Does it Exsist anymore?
I am wondering at all the lovely photo’s that you see on Photo hosting sites like Flickr etc etc how many of those pieces of art are true to original picture?
I mean most people can take fantastic shots with the new camera’s out there today and then they edit it to within a inch of their lives to make it a perfect shot!!
Why do people feel the need to do this can anyone answer me what ever happened to just normal Photography? there was fantastic shots taken pre digital and photo editing software.
What I missed the point with, is that most photo’s these days are edited to have the colour increased, lighting adjusted, etc etc etc..Yes you can adust film but what ever happened to true to life photography with no edit, no colour increase or decrease no tweakin it to take it from great to fantastic..We are not seeing true work from people who take the shots.
I could show you thousands of shots which are not edited anymore now then they would have been 20 years ago.
That is a bit of dodging and burning and spotting.
20 years ago I used to spend hours in a dark room “tweaking” shots – especially b&w shots.
Colour got a bit less but even they were filtered differently to give richer colours and a bit of dodging and burning where necessary.
Ansell Adams would mark up his test prints and then they were printed with masses of work done on them in the darkroom.
I think you are looking at too much stuff done by the myfacebookbebo.com mob who seem to believe if it is not an out of focus badly composed shot which has had a colour cast and stupid writing all over it then it is not a photograph.
“proper” photographers will have and require only minimal post processing work and that is only to account for the deficiencies in digital cameras compared to say Kodachrome.
Obviously there are those of us who will experiement with HDR and the like but then that is what we do as we always have to some extent.
If you think that all shots taken pre-digital were not manipulated then I am afraid you are sadly mistaken.
Darkroom gurus and retouchers were a much sought after breed.
