I am starting a small photography company with limited funds. I need a better camera?
The camera i have now is an old rebel digital SLR. I want to get a new cannon camera for portraits, parties and events. My price range is $500 to $700. Is it realistic to afford a semi pro camera at that price and with what lens?
Actually no that’s not realistic. The bottom line for dslr cameras is currently $500 with an 18-55 lens and that’s not well suited to studio photography. You can do it but you’ll get better results, much sharper images, with a better lens. That could be as much as $400 at least or more.
I’d suggest a total investment of about $1,200 at least. Then you’ve got lighting to buy, do you have any? How about back drops, props, a location where you can set and leave your lights all the time?
Lots to think about.
