Do I need to sign/stamp my photography that is for sale?
I am starting a small business both on and off line. I am worried that after I sell one of my prints someone may copy it and resell it. I am planning on adding some type of logo to the digital copies to prevent anyone from simply copying the digital file. However, I do not want to necessarily sign a print that is not numbered and that is being sold as a piece of “framable” fine art. Are my concerns over copies founded? Also, is it customary for a photographer to sign a fine art piece?
As a clarification most of my sales will be through an e-commerce store and I will be doing very little, if any, framing. The prints are meant to be framed, however, I will not be doing the framing, I want to leave framing up to the customer.
Frame it, sign the matte and put the copy right info on the back with a stamp ON the print. Sell it in the matte with frame or only in the matte . I am sure the frame shop will help you out here. Remember the print has value, do not under price it. What ever your thinking about charging.. charge twice that amount.
Me thinks I should dig out the prints from the locker and have some framed up for the farmers market this summer… hummmm…. or go fishing I am after all simi retired..
