Can I produce good quality B&W prints with Adobe photoshop 5.0?
After years of use & abuse I have finally retired my Nikon FM2 and FA, brushed aside my Luddite tendencies and plunged into the digital photography pool and bought myself a Nikon D70. Now I need to buy the software I am looking at Adobe Photoshop 5.0 but I need to know will I be able to produce good quality Black & White prints, I rarely print larger than 10 x 8, having all the control I am used to in a conventional darkroom, ie dodging, burning, contrast control, hazing, softening etc. Will I be able to alter exposure times and vary the contrast in the one image, basically will I be able to do all I can with Adobe as I can the ‘wet’ way I am used to. If not with this software which will allow me to do this?
Yes, you can adjust the contrast and “exposure” times with Photoshop. As far as quality it is going to be as good as your camera allows it. Your resolution won’t get better because you use Photoshop.
Photoshop will allow you to do everything you can with processing your own film and a whole host of other “stuff” that really isn’t necessary and tells everyone you used Photoshop.
