I do some wedding photography myself. I’m currently working as an apprentice to a wedding photographer. I shoot with Canon so what I recommend from the Canon side is:
Canon 1Ds Mark III or 5D Mark II (I’m recommending these because they’re full frame cameras) – Consider getting both bodies. The two of them will come in useful. Two 1Ds Mark III’s of 5D Mark II’s would be excellent too. Just consider getting 2 camera bodies so you don’t have to switch lenses so often.
Canon 70-200mm F2.8L IS – Definitely one of the best lenses Canon make. This will pretty much do you for nearly every situation.
Canon 85mm F1.8 – Great for portraits. Especially on the full frame camera body.
Canon 16-35mm F2.8L – The best wide angle lens Canon do.
Canon 24-70 F2.8L – This is the best standard zoom lens Canon do.
Canon 580EX II Speedlite – External flash, also, have a look into getting a flash bracket so the flash wont be mounted on top of the camera. You can get better lighting when it’s off to the side of the camera a little bit. Having said that you shouldn’t be using a flash in the church – people want more candid wedding photos now-a-days. So you wont want to be noticed. The flash is a big giveaway.
A good camera bag. Lowepro and Think Thank do very good bags.
A sturdy tripod. I recommend Manfrotto.
Memory Cards – The 5D and 1Ds take CF (Compact flash cards).
Extra batteries. 2 extra batteries would be good.
Cleaning kits.
And that should come close to maxing out your budget…
