Are these camera filters necessary or are they just a gimmick?
I’m an old fashioned photographer struggling with digital, my son keeps asking me questions like this, I can help him with real photography but I’m not too sure about this one.

Modern digital cameras are quite capable of adjusting the white balance automatically, you can also set it manually on most. If you shoot in RAW format on a DSLR, white balance is redundant anyway as you can adjust it with RAW conversion software as you see fit.
If you need to do it manually you can use a piece of white paper. It would certainly be quicker than trying to screw on a filter.
at $69.95 – it’s a con, not just a gimmick!!!!
