Digital Photography Professional Software

digital photography professional software
Question for photograhers?

What kind of camera should I get? I want a professional camera to pursue my interest in photography. I’ve been taking pictures with a regular digital camera for a while now, but I want a really good one. Also, what accessories should I get? Like lenses and whatnot. And what kindof photo editing software should I get to make my photos look even better or add some good effects? Thanks! :)

It sounds like you want a DSLR (the type that has interchangeable lenses). DSLR cameras come in 3 flavors..Consumer, ProSumer, and Professional grade. Your taste and total budget will determine which level camera you will get. Both Nikon and Canon make great cameras.

[Using Canon as an example] The consumer DSLR like the Rebel series starts around $550, the prosumer series like the 7D starts around $1700, and the professional series of the 1D ($4600) & 1Ds ($6500).

Remember, opinions of a camera are like opinions of “what is the best car, what is the best restaurant, and what is your favorite color”. Buy the camera that feels the best to you, since you are the one who will be using it.

Go to an actual camera store (not an electronics store) and look at Nikon and Canon cameras that are within your budget. You will need to figure in the cost of a camera body, a couple of lenses, camera case, extra batteries, extra memory cards, tripod, flash, tax/shipping, etc. For example, if you can spend $1500 total, you should be able to buy a nice $600-$800 camera body.

ALWAYS buy the best/fastest lenses you can afford (the lower the f/stop number, the “faster” the lens is). The lenses you will want/need will depend on what you are going to be shooting (landscape, portraits, nature/wildlife, mostly indoor/outdoor, etc).

As far as lenses go, there is no “one size fits all”. Once you have the camera (and the “kit lens”) and learn to use it, you will learn what extra lenses will fill the voids the kit lens can’t.

Photoshop is the more popular program amongst photographers (CS5 Extended $999 or $199 for students)
