Camera selection for food blog photography
For my food photography, I normally use a very expensive digital back, attached to the back-end of an expensive view camera.
This type of camera rig gives me the ultimate in quality and flexibility. I’m willing to guess that your food blog can’t support a $40,000.00 dollar camera and that you most likely own an entry-level DSLR or point-and-shoot, auto focus digital camera. Don’t worry, that enough to get you going… If you’re in the market for a new camera, I’d like to make a few suggestions.
Interchangeable lenses for food blog photography
In food photography, having interchangeable lenses is a good thing. Even though I use the same lens for 90% of my food photography, it’s always nice to have the option of either going a little wide-angle or a little telephoto. My favorite lens is actually considered a “normal lens” for my chip size, which means even if you don’t have a camera with interchangeable lenses, you more than likely have the lens you need to make beautiful food photos.
Macro Focus for food blog photography
Macro capability is something you really should have if you can afford it. If your current camera doesn’t allow you to focus in close to the food, then you might be in a little trouble getting certain effects.
If your camera doesn’t allow you to get in tight to the food, you will be able to get by if you have a decent image-editing program like Photoshop. With these kinds of programs, you can always crop in tighter in-computer as opposed to in-camera.
