Current value of a Nikon D60 / Should I buy one?
I am looking at a “mint condition” used Nikon D60 .. comes with camera body, 18-55mm lens, 4GB memory card, and Camera Sling Bag for $450 CDN. Is this fair?
I take my cameras on vacations with me, so they usually get tossed around and are at a risk of being stolen. As much as I’d like a nice camera I don’t want to constantly worry about how my $1000 camera is, I would much rather enjoy myself and not be heartbroken if something happens.
I am new to digital SLRs but I have taken a university digital photography class. I would like to experiment a bit with the settings but I also want one that can point & shoot automatically when I ask someone to take a photo for me.
Please give me your thoughts! I think $450 is a bit high considering I can get a D3000 brand new for $550, but I don’t want to haggle with the guy without knowing what I’m taking about. That being said, should I just buy the D3000 for an extra $100 so I have new technology? What’s the difference?

Hmm…the D3000 has approximately the same sensor performance, but a much, much better autofocus system. Also, a new D3000 would come with warranty.
That being said, the D3000 too is outdated and superceded by the much better D3100.
If you’re on a tight budget, consider Pentax. The Kx has an excellent price/performance ratio. It’s important to choose a camera brand that you’ll be comfortable with on the long run though.
